Areas I'd Consider If I Were Moving to Austin Today
As a Realtor, people often ask me:
"Where would you live if you were moving here today?"
It's a fun question because it forces me to think less like a real estate professional and more like someone trying to build a life in a new city.
The truth is, Austin isn't one place anymore.
It's a collection of very different communities, each offering its own lifestyle.
If I were moving here today, these are the areas I'd personally consider.
Cedar Park
No surprise here.
Cedar Park continues to check a lot of boxes.
Good location.
Great amenities.
Strong community feel.
Easy access to shopping, dining, and major employers.
For many people, it offers a sweet spot between convenience and quality of life.
Georgetown
Georgetown has become one of my favorite communities to recommend.
The historic square is charming, the pace feels a little slower, and the city has done an impressive job maintaining its character while growing rapidly.
If lifestyle matters more than being in the center of the action, Georgetown deserves a look.
Brushy Creek
I think Brushy Creek flies under the radar.
The mature trees, parks, trails, and established neighborhoods create an atmosphere that feels different from many newer developments.
It's one of those places that often surprises buyers.
Mueller
If I wanted a more urban lifestyle without living downtown, Mueller would be near the top of my list.
The walkability, restaurants, parks, and community atmosphere make it one of Austin's most unique neighborhoods.
Liberty Hill
For buyers wanting more space and newer homes, Liberty Hill has become increasingly attractive.
Many of the master-planned communities here offer incredible amenities while still providing room to grow.
Round Rock
Round Rock continues to be one of the most practical choices in Central Texas.
Strong local economy.
Excellent amenities.
Convenient access to major employers.
And enough housing options to fit a wide range of budgets and lifestyles.
What Would Matter Most to Me?
Honestly, I'd focus less on finding the "best" neighborhood and more on finding the right fit.
I'd ask myself:
Do I want walkability?
A backyard?
A shorter commute?
New construction?
A strong sense of community?
The answers to those questions would probably narrow my search faster than any online ranking.
My Take
One of the reasons people love Central Texas is that there truly is something for everyone.
Some people thrive in urban environments.
Others want quiet neighborhoods and trails.
Some want nightlife.
Others want space.
The good news is you don't have to choose what everyone else wants. You just have to find the place that feels like home to you.
