Best Places to Go Dancing Around Austin
One thing I love about Austin is that there's a dance floor for just about everyone.
Whether you're into country dancing, two-stepping, line dancing, salsa, live music, or simply getting out of the house and having fun, there are plenty of places to spend an evening dancing.
As someone who's spent some time exploring the dance scene myself, these are a few spots I'd recommend checking out.
Sagebrush
If you enjoy country music, two-stepping, and a more laid-back atmosphere, Sagebrush is one of my favorite places to recommend.
The crowd tends to be friendly, the live music is solid, and it feels a little more authentic than some of the larger dance halls.
The White Horse
If someone asks where they can experience "Austin dancing," this is usually one of the first places that comes to mind.
You'll find live music, two-step lessons, and a mix of locals and visitors looking to have a good time.
Even if you've never danced before, it's a fun place to start.
Mavericks Dance Hall
Located in Buda, Mavericks offers a traditional Texas dance hall experience with plenty of room to dance.
It's popular with country dancers and often features live music throughout the week.
Broken Spoke
You can't talk about dancing in Austin without mentioning Broken Spoke.
Part dance hall, part Austin landmark, this place has been teaching people to two-step for decades.
If you're looking for a classic Texas experience, put this on your list.
Wild West Cedar Park
For those of us in North Austin, Wild West is a convenient option that combines country dancing, line dancing, and a lively crowd.
It's especially popular on weekends.
Halcyon for Salsa Nights
If country dancing isn't your thing, Austin has plenty of Latin dance opportunities as well.
Salsa nights around town offer a completely different experience and can be a fun way to meet people while learning something new.
Donn's Depot
This Austin institution offers live music and dancing in one of the most unique venues you'll find anywhere.
It's impossible not to have fun here.
My Take
The best dance venue depends on what you're looking for.
Some nights call for live country music and two-stepping.
Other nights call for salsa, line dancing, or simply getting out with friends.
The good news is Austin has options for all of the above.
And if you've never danced before, don't let that stop you. Most people are there to have fun, not judge your footwork.
