Beginner-Friendly Hiking Trails Around Austin

Not every hike needs to involve climbing a mountain.

Sometimes you just want fresh air, a little exercise, and a trail that won't leave you questioning your life choices halfway through.

If you're new to hiking, getting back into fitness, or simply looking for an easy outdoor adventure, these are a few beginner-friendly trails worth checking out.

Lady Bird Lake Trail

This is often my first recommendation.

The trail is relatively flat, easy to follow, and offers beautiful views of downtown Austin and the water.

It's perfect for beginners.

Brushy Creek Regional Trail

One of my favorite trails in the North Austin area.

The paved paths, creek views, and multiple access points make it approachable for hikers of all experience levels.

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

This park offers a variety of trail options, allowing you to choose your own level of adventure.

It's a great place to start if you're still figuring out what type of hiking you enjoy.

Lake Georgetown Trails

You don't have to hike the entire trail system to enjoy the scenery.

There are several shorter sections that offer beautiful views without requiring an all-day commitment.

Balcones District Park

This is a great option for anyone looking for a shorter hike with some elevation changes and nice views.

Lakewood Park

More of a nature walk than a hike, but that's exactly why it's perfect for beginners.

The lake views alone make it worth visiting.

My Take

The best hiking trail is the one you'll actually use.

Start small.

Bring water.

Wear comfortable shoes.

And don't worry about how far you go.

Getting outside is the goal.
