Weekend Day Trips From Austin

One of the things I love most about living in Austin is that you're never far from somewhere worth exploring.

Within an hour or two, you can find charming small towns, scenic Hill Country drives, wineries, lakes, historic downtowns, and some of the best barbecue in Texas.

Here are a few day trips I think every local should experience.

Georgetown

The downtown square alone is worth the drive.

Add in local restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and nearby parks, and you have the perfect day trip.

Wimberley

Wimberley feels like a true Hill Country getaway.

Art galleries, local shops, wineries, and beautiful scenery make it a favorite destination year-round.

Gruene

If you want Texas charm, Gruene delivers.

Spend the day shopping, enjoying live music, and exploring one of the most iconic small towns in the state.

Fredericksburg

Wine country, German heritage, great restaurants, and beautiful Hill Country views.

What's not to love?

Marble Falls

A perfect mix of outdoor recreation and small-town charm.

It's especially beautiful during wildflower season.

Johnson City

This often gets overlooked, which is a mistake.

The area offers wineries, scenic drives, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Hill Country.

Salado

A hidden gem for shopping, art galleries, and a relaxing afternoon.

It's one of my favorite recommendations for people looking to avoid larger crowds.

My Take

You don't have to leave Texas to feel like you've gone somewhere.

Some of the best weekend adventures are right here in our backyard.
