Local Parks My Daughter and I Actually Enjoy
When my daughter was younger, finding a good park was easy.
A swing set and a slide could entertain her for hours.
As she's gotten older, I've realized not all parks are created equal. Some are worth the drive, and some are a quick reminder of why we left the house in the first place.
Over the years, we've found a handful of parks that we genuinely enjoy visiting, whether we're walking, talking, bringing the dogs, or simply getting outside for a bit.
Brushy Creek Lake Park
This is probably one of my favorite parks in the area.
The trails are beautiful, there's plenty of space to walk, and it feels like a little escape from everyday life without having to drive very far.
It's one of those places where you can clear your head after a long day.
Lakewood Park
If you've never been to Lakewood Park in Leander, it's worth a visit.
The lake views are beautiful, the trails are well-maintained, and there's enough space for everyone to spread out.
It feels more like a destination than a neighborhood park.
Veterans Memorial Park
This is one of those parks that's easy to overlook but consistently delivers.
It's clean, family-friendly, and offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
Old Settlers Park
Round Rock residents already know about this one.
Between the trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and open space, there's always something happening.
It's especially great if you have kids with a lot of energy.
Southwest Williamson County Regional Park
This park offers a little bit of everything.
Walking trails, sports courts, open fields, and plenty of room to move around.
It's become one of our go-to spots when we simply want to get outside.
Why We Keep Going Back
The truth is, it isn't really about the park.
It's about spending time together.
Some of my favorite conversations with my daughter have happened while walking trails, sitting on a park bench, or letting the dogs explore.
Sometimes getting out of the house is enough.
My Take
One of the best things about living in Central Texas is how many great outdoor spaces we have access to.
Whether you have young kids, teenagers, dogs, or simply need a break from screens, there's probably a park nearby worth exploring.
