My Go-To Spots for a Solo Afternoon
As much as I love spending time with friends, clients, and my daughters, I've learned that I genuinely enjoy a solo afternoon.
A few hours to think.
To wander.
To grab a coffee without being in a hurry.
To explore a place simply because it looks interesting.
One of the things I love about living in Central Texas is that there are plenty of places where I can do exactly that.
Here are a few of my go-to spots when I have an afternoon to myself.
A Local Coffee Shop
This is probably at the top of my list.
Give me a good latte, a comfortable chair, and my laptop or a book, and I'm perfectly content.
Sometimes I'm planning content.
Sometimes I'm working.
Sometimes I'm just people-watching.
Either way, it's one of my favorite ways to recharge.
Lady Bird Lake
Whenever I need to clear my head, I find myself drawn to the trail.
Something about being near the water and moving my body helps me sort through whatever is on my mind.
Plus, it's hard to beat the skyline views.
Georgetown Square
This is one of my favorite places to wander.
I'll grab a coffee, browse a few boutiques, maybe stop by a bakery, and just enjoy a slower pace for a couple of hours.
It's charming without feeling overly touristy.
A Local Bookstore
There's something peaceful about browsing books with no agenda.
Even if I don't buy anything, I almost always leave inspired.
A Farmers Market
I love supporting local businesses, and farmers markets are one of the easiest ways to do that.
Fresh flowers, baked goods, local makers, and live music make for a pretty great afternoon.
Lake Georgetown
When I want a little more quiet, Lake Georgetown is often my answer.
The scenery is beautiful, and it's a great reminder that you don't have to travel far to feel like you've escaped for a bit.
A Boutique I've Never Visited
One of my favorite things about Austin is that there always seems to be a new shop, café, or local business to discover.
Exploring somewhere unfamiliar is half the fun.
My Take
I've learned that spending time alone isn't lonely.
Sometimes it's exactly what I need.
A few hours to recharge, reflect, and enjoy where I live.
And fortunately, Central Texas gives me plenty of places to do that.
