Where I Take Friends When They Visit Austin
Whenever someone tells me they're coming to Austin, I immediately start thinking about where I want to take them.
Not the places that show up on every tourist list.
The places that actually help someone understand why people love living here.
Austin has changed a lot over the years, but there are still certain spots I find myself recommending over and over again.
Lady Bird Lake
This is usually my first stop.
If someone has never been to Austin before, I want them to see the skyline, the trails, and the outdoor culture that makes the city unique.
It's one of the best introductions to Austin.
South Congress
If we're being honest, you can't bring someone to Austin and skip South Congress.
The local shops, restaurants, murals, and people-watching make it one of the city's most iconic areas.
There's always something happening.
Georgetown Square
I know it's technically outside Austin, but I love showing visitors that Central Texas has more to offer than downtown.
The square is charming, walkable, and full of local businesses.
A Great Brunch Spot
Austin brunch is practically a local tradition.
Whether we're catching up with old friends or entertaining guests, brunch is almost always part of the plan.
A Local Coffee Shop
One thing I love about Austin is its coffee culture.
Taking someone to a local coffee shop feels much more personal than stopping at a chain.
Live Music
If we're in Austin, we're finding live music.
Period.
You don't have to be a huge music fan to appreciate the talent and energy that make Austin famous.
Sunset Somewhere Special
Whether it's Lake Travis, Mount Bonnell, or a patio with a view, I always try to end the day with a sunset.
It's one of the easiest ways to remind people why Central Texas is such a special place to live.
The Places I Usually Skip
This might be controversial, but I don't spend the entire visit trying to check off every tourist attraction.
I want visitors to experience Austin the way locals do.
Good food.
Local businesses.
Interesting conversations.
A slower pace.
That's where the real magic is.

The best part of showing people around Austin isn't the city itself.
It's seeing the moment when they start to understand why so many people fall in love with it.
And honestly, that happens less at tourist attractions and more during the simple moments in between.
